The 42nd National Para Games, a stage of passion for disabled athletes, will be held from the 19th to the 24th in Ulsan Metropolitan City.
A record-breaking 9,322 delegations (6,022 athletes and 3,300 officials and staff) from 17 cities and provinces across the country will participate in this National Sports Festival, competing fiercely in 31 sports (28 in the athlete division and 18 in the amateur division).
Aces from each sport, including table tennis player Yun Ji-yu (Gyeonggi), who won three titles and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP) last year, are expected to showcase their skills.
This is the first time in 16 years that the National Para Games are being held in Ulsan since 2006, when the Korea Paralympic Committee, established in 2005, became the hosting organization.
In this competition, equestrianism makes its debut as an official event in the athletes' division, while screen golf has been adopted as an exhibition event in the amateur division.
Unlike last year, when various events such as the opening and closing ceremonies were canceled due to the impact of COVID-19, a variety of events have been prepared this year.
The opening ceremony, which will be broadcast live on KBS 1TV, will be held at Ulsan Sports Complex at 5 p.m. on the 19th, and will be attended by Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Cho Yong-man and President of the Korea Paralympic Committee Jeong Jin-wan, among others.
After the meal, celebratory performances by Lim Chang-jung, Woongsan Band, and others will also take place.
In addition, the Korea Paralympic Committee is holding a Sports Human Rights Festival at the Sports Human Rights Zone in front of Ulsan Sports Complex during the competition period, under the slogan "Para Sports is Human Rights!"
Programs such as the experiential disability awareness program 'Dream Paralympics,' the Sports Human Rights Film Festival, and the Disabled Sports Bus experience are prepared.
The wheelchair basketball quarterfinals held on the 20th and the men's table tennis overall 8th grade final will be broadcast on KBS 1TV on the 21st starting at 12:30 PM.
In addition, 10 events held from the 19th to the 24th will be broadcast live on the Korea Paralympic Committee TV (KPC-TV) and YouTube channels.
